Zdenek Stastny, 64, passed away on January 31, 2020, in Agapé Hospice in Calgary, Alberta. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and brother. Zdenek was born in the Czech Republic in 1956 and, upon completing his medical degree, found his passion in Neonatology and Paediatrics. In 1999, he emigrated with his wife and two daughters to Canada, where he completed additional training as a Paramedic. He shared his deep medical knowledge, strength, positive attitude and a sense of adventure when working in the hard conditions of Alberta’s remote north. He never wavered in the face of adversity, personal or professional. Zdenek was also a passionate artist: amateur painter who loved playing the guitar, piano and banjo, he also published dozens of novels, short stories, poetry and children’s literature in the Czech Republic. He was an active member of the Czech Business Association in Calgary, and a supporter of Calgary’s Czech School.
Zdenek Stastny was truly a unique man: his sense of humour, his love for his friends and family, and his undying positive attitude were unmatched. He touched countless lives in everything he did and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
His last goodbye and celebration of life will take place in Prague in the spring.
