Wilbie Lois Frances Shepherd

Instead of mourning a life ended, we celebrate a life beautifully lived.

Wilbie Lois Frances Shepherd, lovingly known as Billie, was born on March 30, 1932, in Dodsland, Saskatchewan. She spent her early childhood there with her mom and dad, four sisters and two brothers before the family moved to Calgary.

Billie married Joe on March 29,1952, beginning a lifelong partnership of 58 years. She often said her greatest accomplishment in life was her five children, all whom she loved
deeply. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who adored their GG.

From 1970-1972 Billie attended Mount Royal College and went on to build an outstanding career in Early Childhood Education. She believed deeply in shaping young lives with kindness and encouragement.

Billie lived by her core values: kindness, fairness, hard work, humour, faith and an enduring love for others. Her resilience throughout life was remarkable. She had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone, fortunate enough to cross her path.

Friendship was one of life’s great treasures for Billie. She was grateful for her decades-long friendship with Janice Lynn and for Carol’s enduring friendship. Later in life, she was fortunate to meet Derrick. Together they painted, cooked, planted gardens, travelled and entertained special friends.

Billie’s sharp mind was always ready for a spirited game of bridge with Helen, Betty Ray, Paddy, Gloria and Sheila. She went the extra mile to make every gathering, holiday and
ordinary day feel special.

Billie lived 93 full and vibrant years. The true gift was her-her presence, her love, her laughter. 

If you would like to honour Billie, raise a glass, plant something beautiful, help a neighbour, take a trip, bake a pie or simply love someone. That would make her smile.
