Thomas Alty

Thomas Alty, 93, of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully on June 6th after a short, but valiant battle with colorectal cancer. 

Thomas (Tom) was born on February 24th, 1929 to Thomas and Elizabeth Alty in Liverpool, England. The youngest of three boys, he is predeceased by his parents; older brother James; and his twin brother Edwin. Tom is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Margaret; his daughter Kym (Brent); and his grandson Brett.

He started work at an early age as a Butcher, which started a career that he carried on after immigrating to Canada in 1959. Tom was well known for his engaging personality and charm. He loved listening to music and was an outstanding dancer, often ‘given the floor’ at the many weddings, he attended during his lifetime. 

In the 66 years of marriage that came after both experienced a world war, subsequent numerous recessions, and a pandemic, the only thing Tom and Margaret disagreed on was the size of the carrot and turnip pieces to accompany the evening’s meal, they truly were kindred spirits and their love will endure throughout eternity.

Grandson, Brett Thomas Alty, now proudly carries the name into the future. “Go with the Flow” was a mantra often repeated between them both and has truly become a recipe for happiness in Brett’s life. He will miss his “G-Pop” dearly and is thankful for the nearly two decades of Sundays they spent together.

His Daughter, Kym, requests that as a tribute to her Dad, you listen to an 80’s disco tune and remember his remarkable “jive” talents and absolute love of life. His positive attitude, on all levels, continues on in her and she is thrilled to have been his daughter. “You’re Family Dad!”
