Therese Delma Loyer Obituary

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother, Therese, in Calgary, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the age of 93. She was surrounded by the love of her family in the days leading up to her passing. She is survived by her children, Patrick Loyer (Janet) of Airdrie, Deborah (Tom) Hill, Martin (Katharine) Loyer, Mona Loyer, Blanche Loyer (Stephen Hodgkinson), all of Calgary, Carrie Ross of Taber, Ab and Jo Ann (Jim) Otteson of Coleman, Ab. She is also survived by a brother, Kennith Letendre and a sister, Judith Hilbert, both of Edmonton, 13 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Therese was born May 7, 1932, to Wilfrid and Philomene (Loyer) Letendre, at Lac Ste Anne, Alberta, where she was raised, lived and was married to George Ernest (Ernie) Loyer on June 29, 1951. Her young family lived in the Lac Ste Anne, Wabamun and Edmonton area and various small towns in central Alberta for a number of years before settling in Blairmore, in the Crowsnest Pass in 1961 where they remained until 1998. Therese worked at the hospital in Blairmore as a dietary aide for 26 years and was active with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, serving some time as president. She was an excellent cook, and our table always welcomed any and all to share a meal. She loved camping and her and Ernie had many great times with family and friends. After retirement, Therese and Ernie moved to an acreage in Balzac in 1998, where Ernie passed in 2003 and she remained until 2017 when she moved to Airdrie. In 2021 she moved to her final home, The Lodge at Valley Ridge Retirement Community, in NW Calgary; a wonderful home where she thoroughly enjoyed living with thoughtful, caring staff and many kind, fellow residents she called friends.

Therese will be cremated, and a private family gathering will be held in her honour. She was a devout Catholic all her life. A funeral mass and internment (with her late husband, Ernie) will be held at a date to be determined, in their ancestral home of Lac Ste Anne, Alberta. Her family was the heart of her world, and she was at the heart of all of ours. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered in the lifetime of memories we all shared with her. We take comfort in knowing she has gone to her Lord and is at peace.
