It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry James Dublonko on March 23, 2024, peacefully surrounded by family and caregivers in Calgary, Alberta. He was 80 years old.
Terry was born September 25th, 1943, in Jasper, AB, to Nancy and Jim Dublonko. He grew up in Edmonton with his sister Gloria Smith (predeceased) laying the foundation for a life filled with love, laughter and lasting connections. It also seeded his love for the Edmonton Oilers and Eskimos. He attended the University of Alberta where he pursued his passion for geology earning a degree that served for a lifetime of exploration and discovery. Also at University Terry met his other passion, Madeleine “Maddie” Cormier, and built a love story that spanned five decades filled with unconditional unwavering devotion as companions, confidants and friends.,
In the summer of 1970, the two married and moved to Calgary to take advantage of the growing economic opportunity. As an entrepreneur with passion, persistence and patience they were able to establish their first successful company, Pathfinder Surveys and later on San Juan Resources that operated for 25 years.
Terry was a beloved husband, father, uncle and friend. His children were his pride and joy, and he took immense pleasure in witnessing their successes and milestones. He was a beacon of strength and support, always offering guidance with patience and understanding.
He will be remembered as a compassionate, vibrant, humorous, opinionated man who was best known as a skilled raconteur that delighted his audiences often over dinners and the casual beer/cocktail or while working in his garage. In his later years, he spent most of his time typically having belly laughs with friends and family while telling stories from the past or present.
Terry is survived by his loving wife Madeleine; three sons, Murray (Chelsea), Trevor (Julie) and Warren (Kristen); as well as eight grandchildren, Faith, Wesley, Austin, Emerson, Harper, Blake, Brooklyn, and Lincoln.
Though Terry may no longer walk among us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who’s lives he touched with his warmth, humor and boundless generosity. He will be missed by many colleagues, friends and family. He lived with integrity and left this world a rich man in love, accomplishments and experiences.
A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held in the late spring. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to express your support by donating to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary in Terry's honor at https://www.alzheimercalgary.ca/. We are also eternally grateful to his team of compassionate caregivers who took exceptional care of Terry at the Carewest Garrison Green care facility during his battle with dementia over the last three years of his life.
