Terence (Terry) Harding Obituary

On Monday, September 23, 2024, Terence Mark Harding, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away in Airdrie, Alberta at the age of 73. His 16 year long battle with cancer showed his courage in facing life's challenges with a smile.

Terry is survived by his cherished wife of 22 years Yvonne Harding (née Labordus).

Terry was born on January 14, 1951, in Peterborough, Ontario to Thomas and Clarissa Harding. Terry was the youngest of ten siblings including Helen, Arthur, Harold, Margaret, Paul, Gord, Ernie, Gerald, and Dave. Clarissa passed away in 1962 when Terry was a young child and he then resided with his sister Margaret (Hilliard) and their daughter Bonnie Jones.

Anyone who knew Terry understood that his family meant the world to him. Terry married Marie (née Davis) in 1976 and three children were born; Krista, Mark, and Scott. The family was raised in Peterborough, Ontario. A tremendous amount of time with the family was spent at the farm of Terry’s in-laws, Russell and Agnes Davis.

Terry had various careers, from his long tenure at the Fairhaven Nursing Home, to the owner of Parkhill Video, to oilfield chef, and then maintenance worker at the school division. He had a strong work ethic and was always known to be early.

After leaving Ontario in 1998, Terry met his soulmate Yvonne in Kelowna, British Columbia. They were married in 2002. Terry became a proud step-father to Jhen and Corinna. The couple moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta in 2003 and settled in Airdrie in 2007.

The simplest of pleasures brought Terry great joy. Cards and a good game of crib were a staple. He often liked to bring out spatulas and kitchenware as microphones to everyone at the campfire to sing his favorite songs. He spent many a day on the water, boating and fishing. Many memories were made at Long Lake in Ontario, Lake Okanagan in Kelowna, Miette Hot Springs in Jasper, Harrison Lake in British Columbia, and Slave Lake in Alberta.

Terry took a very active role in the lives of all of his grandchildren. Always a practical joker he took great joy teasing the “daylights” out of the kids. He could be spotted at numerous grandchildren’s activities always imploring everyone to adore his beloved sports team the Toronto Maple Leafs. GO LEAFS GO!

In 2021 Terry learned of, and was grateful to meet, his daughter Karri Matthews and her family.

A very patient, loving, and kind man is how Terry will be remembered.

Terry is survived by his wife Yvonne Harding; his children Krista Schuett (Ken), Mark Harding (Gemma Wallis), Scott Harding, Jhenipher Bridgeman, Corrina Barile, and Karri Matthews (Travis); his grandchildren Emily (Nathan Pettersen), Lucas and Cameron Schuett, Russell Harding, Kaylee Walstrom, Logan, McKennah, and Talon Barile, Amanda St-Pierre, Chris and Kelly Charbonneau, Michael and Tyler Matthews; his great-grandchildren Westyn Pettersen and Amelia Jones; his brother Dave Harding (Joan) and brother-in-law Tonny Labordus (Karen); sisters-in-law Marilyn, Jeanette, Trudie, and Dorothy Harding. Terry will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Terry was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Clarissa Harding, and Tonny and Elisabeth Labordus; siblings Helen, Arthur, Harold (Florence), Margaret Garrett (Hilliard), Paul (Sandra), Gord, Ernie and Gerald Harding.

To honour Terry’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
