Ruth Lillian (Harris) Heim

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Lillian Heim (Harris) on Thursday, October 05, 2023, at the age of 87 years, from dementia, at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary, Alberta.

Ruth was born in Lachine, Quebec on January 07, 1936, to Thomas and Dorothy Harris.  She grew up in Lachine with her younger brother Gordon.

Ruth married Gilles Heim, and together they enjoyed camping, canoeing, and fishing.  They would often bring their niece (April) and nephews (David & Keith) along with them. Ruth and Gilles ended up in Winnipeg, Manitoba where they eventually separated.

Ruth started her new life in Lachine, Quebec, where she worked for Godfrey Howden, as an office administrator.  She was an active member of the Summerlea United Church and participated in their bazaars, choir, and candlelight services. She was also a member of The Teapot for senior citizens. Ruth loved making crafts, cooking, and baking, especially Christmas baking for family & friends.

After Ruth retired from Godfrey Howden she started traveling.  She went on a trip to Israel with her best friend Betty May.  She also loved to go on cruises with her brother Gordon and sister-in-law Sheila.

When Ruth was diagnosed with dementia, her brother and sister-in-law moved her out to Calgary, AB; where they helped find a perfect nursing home to care for her.  

Ruth is survived by her sister-in-law Sheila Harris; nieces and nephews; April (Tom) West, (Kathy) Harris, and Keith (Angela) Harris; her 8 great-nieces and nephews, and 17 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Ruth is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Dorothy Harris; brother Gordon Harris; and nephew David Harris.

A Service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Summerlea United Church (225, 50e Ave, Lachine Quebec), followed by a Reception. 

Interment will be at  Delson Protestant Cemetery, (215 Chemin Saint Francois Xavier, Delson, Monteregie Region, Quebec).
