Ronald Ivan Gare, born on January 24, 1948, in London, Ontario, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 77. His life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and a passion for learning that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Ron was the cherished son of Ivan Melford Gare and Ruby Eleanor Ritchie. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Eleanor Jean Gare, and his parents, Ivan and Ruby. Despite the heartache of losing loved ones, Ron's life was filled with joy and companionship, particularly through his enduring marriage to Barbara Sue Hanley, which began on October 11, 1975. Together, they celebrated nearly 50 years of love and partnership, building a family that was the center of their universe.
Ron was a devoted husband and father, survived by his loving wife Sue Barbara (Hanley), his children Virginia (Kevin) and Tony (Angela), and his grandchildren Oliver, Hugh, and Vivienne, who brought him immense joy. He also held a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephew, Lesley, Katie, Paula, Shelby, and the late Darren who were a source of pride and happiness in his life. Ron embraced his role as a father and grandfather, imparting wisdom, humor, and a deep sense of family values to the next generation.
Professionally, Ron found fulfillment in his work with Bell-Northern Research and General Dynamics Canada, where he was able to apply his intellect and creativity. He had an innate talent for building and flying model helicopters, showcasing his love for engineering and technology. His interests extended well beyond his work; he was an avid billiards player, enjoyed writing software, and had a passion for building electronics. Each hobby reflected his curious mind and his desire to understand the world around him.
Ron was known for his warm and humorous personality, a characteristic that endeared him to friends and family alike. His ability to find laughter in everyday moments was a gift that he shared generously, leaving behind memories filled with joy.
In his passing, Ron leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and a passion for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to cross his path. A private funeral service will be held to honor his life, allowing family and close friends to celebrate the remarkable man he was.
