Ron was born on the North ½ of Section 20 in Swan River Municipality, MB, on November 27, 1939. He was the fifth addition to a family of 11 children. Their father, Albert Avey, passed away when the youngest child, Barbara, was approximately 2 years old. Despite the hardships they encountered, love and endurance prevailed, shaping their characters and strengthening their resilience. He loved to sing and play the banjo or guitar and took part in many talent contests, a few of which he won. After high school he worked for the Dept. of Highways, then as a driller for Manning at Grand Rapids. Ron subsequently moved to Calgary and first worked as a delivery driver, then had an interest in a Texaco service station. He then went on to work for an engineering firm, Tottrup & Assoc. while taking courses. After that he started his own business doing inspection and expediting for oil and gas until he retired. He was passionate about his family, music, hunting, fishing, camping, sports and just exploring the whole country. Upon retiring, he purchased his dream travel trailer, and he and Fran travelled extensively throughout Canada, the US and Alaska. When not travelling, he spent many hours in his garden. His garage became a backyard spot where he and his neighbors watched sports daily and unlimited stories were told.
Ron is survived by his wife Fran of 59 years, sons Jeff (Rosie), and Reg (Theresa) with five grandkids, Brad (Laurà), Jessee (Leanne), Kalista (Jacob), Steven (Josie) and Scott. He has two great-granddaughters, Rilynn-Rose and Ivy-Jade.
He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Margaret Avery and his brother Gordon and sister Marilyn.
Broken chain
We little knew that morning,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone;
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
Your love is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
