Robert Peters Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce Rob’s passing in the early morning of Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

He was the kid in the classroom who was made to sit in the corner with gum on his nose. Later in school he won trophies for speech arts and performed in a mime troupe.

Rob met life’s challenges with his wit…he was a legend of comedy. Rob met a girl from BC and was smitten with her. They married in 1979 and moved to Cochrane, Alberta where Jolene and Clayton were born. When the kids were little, Rob and Linda moved to Victoria and there he built a home improvement business that still operates today.

He was a natural, easy-going sales guy who left people happy to have dealt with him and well entertained. Throughout his 30-year career, Rob was highly respected among a vast network of business connections throughout the US and Canada, many of whom remained as good friends.

It was in Victoria that the prairie boy discovered the world of west coast boating. He loved nothing more than heading out to the Gulf and San Juan Islands with Linda, finding a sheltered bay and tying up with friends.

Years later, they returned to Alberta settling in Calgary near their kids and had the joy of spending time with grandkids Ashton, Marley and Lucy. If you were to ask Rob about the best times of his life, he would say they were travelling with Linda, out enjoying BC waters on his Sea Ray, and at home in Calgary where his kids and grandkids filled his heart.

Rob was a true friend and always a straight shooter. He loved pubs, and the characters in the pubs, and they loved him. At the slightest need Rob was there to offer support. If you were going through hell, he’d make you laugh along the journey. Rob’s buddies will never forget the guy who was quick to make you a friend and remind you not to take life too seriously.

Throughout his illness Rob never wavered in his resolve to take things day by day, to focus on the positive and just get on with life. His departure was quick, but gratefully, he was able to have final visits with his family and friends.

Rob leaves behind his wife, Linda, daughter Jolene, son Clayton (Shinelle), grandchildren Ashton, Marley and Lucy all in Calgary, and his sister Karen (John) in London, Ontario.

If we could guess, Rob might choose the words of Dr Suess, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

Rob's Celebration of Life will be held at Veranda at the Stables (2566 Flanders Avenue SW, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 4:00 pm. Parking is available on Flanders Ave. or in the lot off Battlefield Ave.

Please RSVP only if you are attending to linda.peters@shaw.ca. There will be time after the eulogies to share a memory if you wish.
