Robert Gerald Morton passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the age of 96.
Bob was born on March 4, 1927, in Calgary, AB, the youngest, and last surviving, of six children born to Peter and Muriel Morton.
As a young man, Bob was an incredible athlete in many sports, playing basketball and football in high school, senior men’s fastball shortly thereafter, golfing and curling as he grew older. It was here that Bob met many of his lifelong friends. Many a story has been told about the antics of this gang of friends over the years. These friendships developed into the making of quite an extended family for everyone.
Bob was also a talented artist; many friends and family members have a painting or sculpture holding a special place in their homes. He devoted a lot of his time to his family and others, coaching basketball, painting scenery for the annual Renfrew Church Musical, building toy boxes, cedar chests, toy backhoes, tables, and more for his children and grandchildren, as well as helping to develop basements, cabins, etc. with his buddies.
Bob was well-loved by everyone he met, regardless of their age. His children recall knocks at the door where small children would politely ask, “If Mr. Morton could come out to play.” He made lifelong friends with his co-workers, both young and old whom he worked with at Imperial Oil. He was always cherished by the children of his own friends. But he was most dearly loved by his own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, in which he took so much pride.
He is survived by his son Bruce Morton; daughter Leslie (Michael) Bryson; and daughter Lori (Eugene) Earnshaw. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nolan, Mark, Paul, Zoe, Carly, Rachel, Malene, Yvonne, Katrina, and Gavin, and all their families. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Norma (nee Woolley) in 2011.
