Randy Stegemann passed away on January 8, 2025, surrounded and supported by the love of his family. He was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Randy was an astute businessman and as ethical as they came. He was a brave and steadfast warrior as he fought his five year battle with cancer. Randy adored his family, enjoyed travelling, was passionate about the appraisal industry, took pleasure in fishing, listening to music and appreciated his gin. He loved conversing and sharing these passions with anyone that would listen (or even just sit beside him and pretend to listen). He was 60 years young when he flew into the arms of Jesus.
Randy was born on February 22, 1964 in Porcupine Plain, SK. Randy grew up all over the country in a military family and moved around many times in his early life living in Porcupine Plain SK, Borden ON, Cold Lake and Edmonton AB, and Greenwood NS. When his father retired from the military, he returned to Saskatchewan to farm and graduated from Weekes High School in 1982.
After graduation, Randy went on to attend a Semester at the University of Regina, prior to attending the Kelsey Institute of Arts and Sciences in Saskatoon, SK to obtain a Diploma of Technology in Mechanical Engineering in 1985.
As an adult Randy lived in Edmonton where he worked in Marketing prior to moving to Calgary in 1996 and managed in the sales industry.
Randy met Karen in 1992, and the two were married in 1997. Randy and Karen welcomed two boys to their family, Reid in 1996, and Chase in 2002. As a family they loved to travel and explored many places together, including the Maritimes, Florida, Montana, California, Cuba & Mexico. However they had a particular love for travelling close to home, road tripping often to Fairmont Hot Springs, to Ski and Sicamous, BC to houseboat.
In 2003, Randy began working in Real Estate Appraisals, and in 2008, Randy took over Benchmark Real Estate Appraisals and operated his own business until 2024 when he stepped back from his work. In business, Randy was renowned as an expert in the real estate appraisal field. He was Certified as an Appraisal Reviewer, and Designated Commercial Appraiser. Randy was also recognized as an expert witness by the Court of Queen’s Bench, and was named the CNAREA Member of the year twice, first in 2012, and again in 2024.
Randy is survived by his wife Karen, children Reid (Alexandra) and Chase (Kasandra), his mother Barbara, brother Cory (Sandra), and many other friends and family. Randy is predeceased by his father Edward, step-father Bill and beloved dog Sadie.
Randy will be laid to rest later this spring, where his ashes will be buried alongside his father in Saint Andrew Cemetery in Carragana, SK.
The family wishes to thank the tireless attention, care and love provided by the doctors and nurses at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and his palliative care team who provided compassionate support and advice, as well as the countless family, friends and loved ones who have offered kind words, food, hugs and memories. We are forever grateful.
