Rae Anne Langdon Obituary

Rae Anne Langdon passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Rocky View Hospital in Calgary, following a nine-month long battle with cancer.

Rae Anne was born in Grande Prairie on May 21, 1961. She was raised on a family farm near Clairmont, where she acquired her strong work ethic and love for animals. She had both passion and talent for music, teaching herself guitar by playing along with the radio. She continued to develop her skill, learning to play the piano, ukulele, clarinet, and flute, among others.

In 1983, Rae Anne graduated from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, having completed her Bachelor of Elementary Education with a specialization in music. She taught in Sexsmith and Fort McMurray for six years before moving to Calgary in 1989, where she taught with the Calgary Board of Education until 2020. Following her retirement, Rae Anne continued her contributions to education, working as a consultant with the University of Ambrose’s Faculty of Education, sharing her experience and expertise with student teachers. Her 39-year long career as an educator touched and shaped countless lives.

Known for her spirituality, her advocacy for equality and acceptance, her volunteer work helping those in need, and the many rescue animals she adopted over the years, Rae Anne will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Rae Anne wanted to be remembered by the joy she brought to others during her life and not the sadness of her absence.

Her family will always hold their memories of her close to their hearts, especially those of their camping trips, playing games such as Cribbage and Up The River, and visits to the family farm.

Rae Anne is survived by her daughters, Rachelle and Sienna; her husband of 23 years Greg Beck; her brother Ian; her nieces and nephews; and beloved rescue dogs Wesley and Pearl.

Rae Anne was preceded in death by her father Allan Langdon; her mother Nelda Langdon (nee Nordquist); and her uncles, Stewart Langdon and Michael Demaine.

Rae Anne will be remembered as a mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, colleague, and dedicated educator.

Following her wishes, Rae Anne was cremated and her remains spread in some of her favourite spots of natural beauty. Memorial donations may be made to Inn From The Cold at https://innfromthecold.org/.
