After many years of illness, Phyllis passed peacefully at her care home on September 23, 2025.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and having had the opportunity to live in Germany for two years as a teenager with her family, she was an adventurous young woman and wanted to travel. She joined Air Canada as a Stewardess in 1959 and worked for them for 32 years. She retired as a Flight Service Director in 1991. It was a career that she was immensely proud of. It was during her Air Canada years that she met the “love of her life”, prolific pilot, Sailer and Widower, Jack (“Johnny”) McKenzie Jones. Phyllis and Johnny married in 1974 and spent 39 wonderful years together in Richmond and then in White Rock, British Columbia. They travelled the world and sailed their beloved Kilohana through the San Juan and Gulf Islands until Johnny’s passing in 2013. Together, the two of them were larger than life. Had many wonderful friends and truly lived life to the fullest.
After many years living on the west coast and Johnny’s passing, Phyllis moved to Calgary in 2019 to be closer to her family. She once again lived life to the fullest, finding a favorite jazz club to frequent and made many new friends. Even through her last years when she was ill, to her family’s, Doctor’s, and caretakers joy, she continued to use her beautiful Air Canada smile and demeanor on everyone, and she often reminisced about the “love of her life” Johnny.
Phyllis was pre-deceased by her parents, Roland and Ethel, and her younger siblings Alan and Barbara.
Phyllis is survived by Irene (Alan), her nieces, Kim (Steve) and Karen. Phyllis is also survived by Johnny’s children from his first marriage, Rick, Janice, Ruth, and their children, Stephen, Andrew, Katie, Shaun and Johnny’s many special great grandchildren.
In keeping with Phyllis's wishes, a Memorial Service will not be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Phyllis’s favourite charity, Doctors without Borders.
