Phyllis "Betty" Elizabeth (Kirk) O'Donnell

Betty was born and raised in Portobello, Edinburgh, Scotland by her doting parents George Pennycook Kirk and Janet (More) Kirk.

As a young woman, she enjoyed going to social activities and dances, through the Church Youth group, with her lifelong friend Elizabeth (Bryce) Black. Betty was known for her great fashion sense, dance moves, and singing voice.

Betty later trained as an office administrator at Torphichen Commercial College. This education served her well and she gained employment with the City of Niagara Falls when she emigrated to Canada with her first husband.

Through her first husband, Ian Robertson, she gained and maintained an enduring special relationship with, niece Lorraine Nolan. Lorraine’s fond memories of Betty include: Betty’s “film star” style, caring nature, beautiful singing voice, sharing laughs, and their monthly chats.

In 2007, Betty married Charles O’Donnell, in Calgary, Alberta. She brought such happiness and light to Charlie; they were a loving and fun couple. Betty was a devoted wife and she fully embraced Charlie’s whole family as her own.

Throughout Betty’s life, she made many friends and touched many lives in a positive way. She was a proud Scotswoman, loved music, loved to sing and dance, and was the life of the party. She was a fierce and loyal friend and was always willing to help. She had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh.

Betty is survived by and lovingly remembered by her family: husband, Charles O’Donnell; stepdaughters, Pierrette O’Donnell (Patrick Byrne) and Kerry Stewart (Todd); grandchildren Allie Stewart, Lake (Leo) Stewart, Maggie Stewart, Aidan O’Donnell, Kiara McGarrigle and Thomas Byrne; niece Lorraine Nolan (Gordon); cousin Bill Chambers (Barbara); and life long friend, Elizabeth Black.  She is also survived by and will be dearly missed by a countless number of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 285 (9202 Horton Road SW, Calgary, AB T2V 2X4) on Friday November 22, 2024 from 1:00 - 3:00pm.
