Peter Douglas passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, at the age of 67 years old. He was born in Montreal, Quebec on October 27th,1956 to Arthur and Beatrice Klimes (Bonnell) who preceded him in death. Peter was married briefly and is survived by his daughter Sandra Klimes (Russell) and 4 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Karen (Dumouchel) and Diana Klimes, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Growing up in Montreal, Peter served as an Air Cadet and later served in the reserves. He was a volunteer x-ray technician at the Reddy Memorial Hospital. He did a short study abroad in Marseille France and attended German School Saturday mornings at the Goethe Institute which he later continued in High School. He loved anything to do with airplanes and never missed an air show if it was possible. His favorite place was our cottage on Lake Memphremagog where he most enjoyed being in the boat driving around…and singing. In his early working years, he did security work for Brinks and later Barnes, followed by a move to Ottawa and IT training for Compaq computers.
He was a kind-hearted man, known for his sense of humor, sarcasm and ability to listen. He was dearly loved by those who knew him. He developed health issues in his forties due to his diabetes, which led to a move to Calgary to be closer to family. During this time, he lived with his sister Diana and family for several years until his care required moving to a care facility. He endured his trials well, accepting each new stage with dignity and never complained. He lived the last 7 years of his life at the Age Care Seton facility where the workers grew to love him and who took good care of him. They were very sad to lose him which was evident by the many workers who stopped by to pay their respects and escort his body from the care center.
A Memorial Service will be held to honor his life, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (530 Seton Passage SE.) on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 3:00 pm
We will provide a zoom link for those interested.
