Patty Hrynchuk

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Patricia Annette Hrynchuk of Calgary, on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the age of 75 years.

Patty is survived by her good friend Frances Watson; her cousins, Alice (John) McCarthy of Herndon, Va. USA, and Myron Shoomski of Toronto, Ontario.

Patty was often heard to say “I hate people” or “ The more I know people, the more I love my animals.” So it is a testament to her patience with humans that she leaves behind numerous friends including, but not limited to, Lynda Surerus, Eliska Suchy, Linda Schaeffer, Judy Weinkauf, Linda Larsen, and Caren Clouston. Her remaining furry friends - Sebastian, Alice, and Bernice - will miss her terribly. The Rainbow Bridge will be where Patty is reunited with the many cats, dogs, and Llamas she said goodbye to.

Patty was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Annie and Bill. She attended Sisler High School and then studied nursing at The Salvation Army Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg. She worked as a nurse at The Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, The Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, and lastly at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.

Patty’s Ukrainian heritage continued with her love of perogies throughout her life. She loved to sing Connie Francis songs, listen to Jann Arden and Tina Turner, play Candy Crush, watch the Young and Restless, and read Joy Fielding books. She could often be seen with a Coke can in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Patty was funny, kind, stubborn, and loving to those she liked.

She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Bill, and her good friend Gloria and husband Patrick.
