It is with sadness the family announces her passing on January 17, 2025 at the age of 89 years at Rocky View Hospital.
Mom or Pat (as most people knew her) was born in Calgary, Alberta. She is survived by her son Daryl and daughter Lisa (Gordon), and two grandchildren Owen and Sarah. She is predeceased by her husband Elmer and daughter Lori.
Mom was raised in Calgary and lived there her long life. She married Dad in June of 1956 and had three children. Daryl was born in 1963 and Lori and Lisa were born in 1968. Mom and Dad were married for 63 years before he passed in October 2019. Mom’s early years she talked of the farm and her cousins. Mom had a wonderful circle of cousins and throughout the years, brought our family special times in Mom and Dad’s rumpus room. Mom’s career was in administration and she worked for a few companies performing secretarial and payroll duties. Mom loved cooking, canning and baking. I remember Mom and Dad fermenting pickles and other vegetables, making homemade horseradish and German stuffed bread that we still don’t know how to spell the name. Christmas baking was always a big production and so was making old family recipes. After Mom was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, she learned to cook/bake gluten free and did a great job of it. She also loved crafting, anything from macramé to ceramics. Mom loved her back yard and gardening. Her summers were spent growing flowers and vegetables. She also loved dogs. In the early 1990’s, she petitioned for Sue Higgins Park to be remain a natural off leash dog area after the City of Calgary wanted to develop the land for a golf course. The park still presides.
Daryl and I would like to thank our friends and family who have supported us throughout the years. Many good memories with you all at Mom and Dad’s get togethers.
A private memorial will be held in Calgary at a future date.
