With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nicholas (Nick) Illian, 43, of Calgary, suddenly on May 22, 2026.
Born in Toronto, January 5, 1983, Nick lived in Barrie and Burlington, Ontario, before moving to Calgary, Alberta, in 2007.
More than anything, Nick loved football, food, and engaging with people. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Green Bay Packers. While in high school at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie, he played football, rugby, and was on the wrestling team. His slightly lopsided broken nose was a testament to his passion for these sports. Nick will be deeply remembered for his kind heart and his infectious laugh. He made friends wherever he went and will be remembered by so many. The tributes and photos on Facebook are wonderful memories that we will all be able to share.
He was a cherished son to Wilfred and Rosemary Illian, a wonderful brother to Katie (Jeff) Bullick and Patrick Illian (Samantha Hodges). He was the best uncle to Lily and Claire Bullick and Theo and Fred Illian and a beloved nephew to the whole Illian and Jones family.
He was lucky enough to meet the love of his life, Katy Doyle, and treasured her until his passing. Nick and Katy shared a passion for great food, music, gardening and for Katy, eventually, football too. They got together in 2012 and were married in 2018, created a beautiful home, spending countless hours in the garden together, planting seeds, pulling weeds, and growing vegetables. They shared a deep love for Paris, France and were able to spend a few weeks together there, eating their way through the city. Katy will cherish Nick’s memory, his laugh, smile, ability to uplift, and his terrible dad jokes are missed dearly.
A celebration of his life will be held in a few months, and all who loved him are welcome to attend and celebrate his beautiful spirit. Further information will be provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation of Canada.
