Neil Brunner, aged 65, passed away peacefully in the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB, on Tuesday, August 31, 2023.
He was born to Alfred and Laura Brunner and lived on the family farm at Acadia Valley until he was six. Due to his learning difficulties, he moved to Medicine Hat and attended the George P. Vanier School until he was 16. He found the right job and great support staff at REDI Bottle Depot, and retired in October 2011, after 27 years of employment. He still liked to remind people that "bottles and cans are MONEY."
Neil loved his bowling and received an award for 40 years of bowling with the Special Olympics Bowling. He was very proud of his trophies from this activity. He loved going to movies, biking, and hanging out with many friends and family. Thank you to all the staff and friends who enriched his life and supported his learning.
Neil was predeceased by his parents, Alf and Laura; sister Sheila; brothers Michael, and Lorne; stepmother Fay; brother-in-law Terry; and nephew Terry JR.
He leaves to mourn his loss, sister Gail (Bruce); brothers, Rick (Carol), and Paul (Karen); stepbrother Gary; and stepsister Gail; and half-sister Teresa. He loved being an uncle and will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the CORE Association building (412 3 Street, Medicine Hat, AB). Burial will take place at Acadia Valley Cemetery (Range RD 22, Acadia Valley, AB) on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11:30 a.m.
