Nancy Mildred Vacon passed away peacefully on February 21 at Southwood Hospice in Calgary, after a courageous battle with cancer. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care and support provided by the hospice staff during her final days.
Nancy was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick to Clifford and Alice Vacon and called Yarmouth, NS home for her childhood. Nancy later made Calgary, Alberta her home, where she lived and raised her family for the past 40 years.
Nancy will be deeply missed by her husband, Brian O’Connell; her two children, Renee (Herb) and Travis; and her four beloved grandchildren, Rylen, Elias, Adriana, and Felix, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Kevin, Nicky, and Corrine, as well as many nephews and nieces, extended family members and friends.
Nancy was predeceased by her brother Toby and her sister Krista.
Nancy had a vibrant personality and a generous heart. She loved playing bingo, singing karaoke, photography and volunteering at the Calgary Folk Festival. She had a natural ability to make people smile and laugh and never took life too seriously, she was unapologetically authentic. Nancy was always willing to lend a helping hand and was known for her kindness and sense of humor.
She was also dearly loved by her loyal dog Nova, who stayed by her side like Velcro.
Nancy’s warmth, humor, and compassion will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held at MOCA Community Hall (2110 69 Ave SE) on April 18th from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
