Myrna Cosca Diocson Obituary

On May 19, 2026 Myrna Cosca Diocson passed away peacefully with her beloved daughter Tricia Caglar and son-in-law Isa, by her side. She had just turned 89 years old and while her body finally succumbed to illness, her mind was as sharp and as witty as always.

Myrna was the eldest of 7 children born to Esperanza Cosca and Diosdado Diocson in Capiz, Philippines in 1938.  She was a trailblazer, the first one ever to bravely leave her small town of Casanayan, to move to North America, in the middle of winter, to pursue a nursing career. Because of her, many other friends and family followed and are grateful to her for the lives they lead here.

After a long and successful career as a nurse, first in New Jersey and then in McLennan, Calgary and Edmonton, Myrna retired and enjoyed travelling and spending joyous hours with her many friends.  She was a prolific cook, arguably the best in the family, and showed her affection through the countless dishes and dinners made for those she loved.  Never with any fanfare, always making sure everyone was happy and full.

Myrna was generous. Generous with her love, her friendship, and her worldly possessions.  Always fashionable, she gathered friends wherever she went. You would never leave seeing her without some kind of gift and an effusive ‘I love you’. Even as her illness progressed and it was getting harder to talk, she called everyone on their birthdays as she diligently kept track of the important dates of everyone she loved.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Tricia (Isa), her siblings Cecila, Edmund, Nenita, Teresa, Lourdes and the many nieces and nephews who were so dear to her.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Intercare Brentwood for their compassion and care during the last stages of Myrna’s life.

In accordance with Myrna’s wishes, a small private family ceremony will be held in Calgary. She will then return to the Philippines for her Celebration of Life and will be laid to rest in her cherished homeland

In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome to the Alberta Cancer Foundation and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary. These causes meant a great deal to Myrna.
