Milli, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away at the South Health Campus in Calgary, Alberta on May 9, 2020 at the young age of 91 with her loving daughter by her side.
Milli was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan and moved to Calgary as a young adult where she was employed at an oil company. She fell in love and married Blake Hamill then raised their children and more together. She enjoyed a long career with Social Services sharing her huge heart. Together the family enjoyed many homes between Alberta and British Columbia. Milli finally retired at age 75 after losing Blake Hamill. During retirement, Milli met and married Ed Wolf. Together they enjoyed many trips to the mountains and many fine dinners out.
Milli is often known for her love of all things fabulous! This includes, but is not limited to, shoes, fine wine, fashion, and entertaining. She was often referred to as the “Hostess With The Mostess”, even if it was her saying it! Milli loved to travel and take in the sights. Some of her favourite places were New York City, Bermuda, and Victoria where she resided for some time. Milli will always be remembered for her quick wit, wonderful sense of humour, and generosity.
Milli was predeceased by her beautiful daughter Susan, her loving husband Blake, her loving husband Ed, and her sister Sylvia.
She will be dearly missed by her brother Tom (Maxine) Rees and sister Gloria Renouf; her children Peter (Tammy) Hamill, Karen (Gerry) Plouffe, John (Kelly) Hamill; her grandchildren Christopher Hamill, Michael Lee, Nadine (Jay) Gendall, Robert Bowen, Ryan (Jennifer) Plouffe, Joe (Megan) Plouffe, Amanda (Carey) Ernewein, Sheila (Carter) Rycroft, Jennifer (Dave) Teboul, Nicole (Barend) Duiker, Ty Hamill, and Kirsten Hamill; as well as many, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She dearly loved her family and friends, and in return we all loved her.
Thank you to the nursing staff at the South Health Campus that showed true compassion and were very accommodating to our family during her last hours.
A wake in her memory will be held at a later date.
Fly Away
We’ve said the things we need to say
And now the time is here
You’ve shut your eyes and gone away
I’ve let loose all my tears
So fly away on brand new wings
To places never seen
Take with you my love and thanks
And all the times we’ve had
You’ve moved on to a better place
I have no reason to be sad
So fly away on brand new wings
To places never seen
When you love someone so much
It’s hard to say good-bye
But I know you’re happier
Another angel in the sky
So fly away on brand new wings
To places never seen
Released from here a soul set free
But I know where you are
So any time I am feeling sad
I’ll just look towards the stars
So fly away on brand new wings
To places never seen
