Michael Frederick Laws Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Michael Frederick “Mick” Laws at the age of 82.
Mick’s brilliance shone from an early age. He was chosen to attend grammar school in March, England, due to his exceptional intellect, and earned a university scholarship reflecting his remarkable intelligence.

Mick began his career at Lloyds Bank in England, later joining the Bank of Montreal in Quebec, Canada, as a programmer. He then advanced his career as a senior systems analyst with Nova Oil and Gas and TransCanada Pipeline.

In 1973, Mick met the love of his life, Cheryl Joy Rhodes.
They married in 1975, beginning their life together in Montreal and later settling in Alberta. They shared 50 wonderful years of love and partnership.

Mick is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl, and their children, Shelley, Michelle, Paul (Jen), and Stephanie (Dinesh).
He had a special bond with his grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, Tristan, Brandon, Tess (Robb), Kyden, Tayson, Alexis and Keisha. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Koa, Bobbi, Lucas, Layla, and Michael.
As well his loving nieces in England, Deborah, Melanie and Nikki, and his many great nieces and nephews for whom he adored.

He was predeceased by his parents, Annie and Sidney, his brother, Brian, and sister-in-law, Betty.

Mick was known for his deep, meaningful conversations on subjects ranging from history and philosophy to the stars and beyond. His incredible ability to share knowledge, his listening ear, and his quiet, thoughtful presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He will be profoundly missed, leaving a void in our hearts that nothing else can fill, but we seek solace in knowing that he is now in heaven.

The love he gave so freely will live on in all of us.
