Melanie Hadden Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Melanie Hadden (née Perzylo) on June 6, 2025, at the age of 55, after a long and courageous battle with liver failure and cancer.

Melanie is lovingly remembered by her devoted son, Chase (Jenny) of Calgary, and her cherished companion, Aries the pup. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bruce. Melanie is the treasured daughter of Al and Diane Perzylo, who survive her and mourn her deeply. She also leaves behind her siblings: Michele Taylor, Danielle MacKenzie, Derek Perzylo (Jessica), Cameron Martel (Melissa), and Allan Perzylo, as well as many nieces and nephews. Melanie is survived by her grandmother, Helen Sulatyski of Dauphin, Manitoba, and numerous aunts and uncles across Canada.

She was truly one of a kind—a rare gem whose creativity and spirit inspired those around her.

As a mother, she went above and beyond, even teaching her son sign language as a baby before he could speak so they could share conversations. Melanie was the founder of Gifted and Spoiled, a company that reflected her unique approach to life; she lived up to the name in every way. For over a decade she built the company, and her creativity shone through as she prepared baskets of books as presents for her executive clients, always adding a personal touch. Her passion for nourishing others was also evident in her soup company, Angels Broth, where she crafted healing foods with care and love.  She was a gift giver.

Her legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and a fierce love for life. She was a loyal friend, always ready to lend a helping hand or share her delicious home-cooked treats with neighbors and family. Her hallmark smile and generosity will be remembered by all who knew her.

Melanie was the captain of her fate, the master of her soul.

A lover of old-world art and classic comedy, Melanie found joy in laughter—especially with favorites like The Dick Van Dyke Show. She delighted in live performances, including “Comedy in the Park” at Prince’s Island in Calgary, made special by her nephew James, and the “Elvis” impersonator recently for her birthday in Calgary, which she enjoyed so much she attended twice to sing along.

Her favorite professional role was as an administrator at the Calgary Children’s Hospital, where she worked until illness prevented her from continuing. Her dedication to helping others was evident both professionally and personally. Melanie’s warmth and loving presence touched everyone she met, and she balanced that with her sense of humor and wit;  she will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all whose lives she brightened. No more suffering—her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life for Melanie around the September long weekend. Details will be shared here online in July, along with a formal announcement to friends and family. Cremation has taken place.

“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.”  Winnie the Pooh Quote – her favorite
