Mary was very proud of her father who was elected to the House of Commons for Lisgar in 1953. Following his time in parliament Dr. Pommer returned to his dental practice in Winnipeg.

Mary attended the University of Manitoba graduating in 1946 with a degree in Bachelor of Science, she had an internship in 1947 in Vancouver, BC before moving back to Winnipeg in 1948 to work at Deer Lodge Hospital. In 1958, Mary moved to Toronto, Ontario to attend the University of Toronto for post-graduate studies.

On January 1, 1963, Mary moved to Fargo, North Dakota where She graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1966 with a master’s degree in education development.

Mary then moved to St. Paul Minneapolis, Mn in 1967. This is where she met Joe, her husband of 44 years. Mary and Joe had a beautiful house in Roseville, Mn. They enjoyed many summers on the St Croix River on their 25ft boat named the "Pommerick" Mary and Joe were longtime members of St. Christopher’s Church, enjoyed curling, gardening, walks with their German Shepards, and wintering in Texas at Padre Island.

At the young age of 98, Mary moved from Roseville, Mn where she was in an assisted living facility to Calgary, where she could be with her niece, Catherine.

Mary lived a Sarcee Carewest from September 25, 2023, until her passing. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Sarcee Carewest for their kindness and attention to both Mary and her sister Helen (seven years Carewest Sarcee.)
