Mary Elaine (Gerritsen) Lovasz

Mary Elaine Lovasz, 64, was born on August 2, 1961, in Calgary, Alberta. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 19, 2026, at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family, and she cherished every moment she shared with her grandson Asher, who adored her deeply.

The Best Girls’ Day Ever was shared by mother and daughter in 1998, when Mary and seven‑year‑old Cassandra went to see Spice World. The outing was filled with laughter, excitement, and love.— a memory that has never been forgotten.

Mary loved spending time outdoors, especially camping, quadding, and being surrounded by nature. She also enjoyed hunting and was especially excited during the year she, Joe, and son Adam successfully bagged a moose together, with Mary holding her own moose tag and Joseph the partner tag.

She was an avid bowler, and for many years her Tuesday evenings were happily spent at the bowling alley with her dear friends Phyllis, Carol, and Carla.

Mary was an incredible baker and loved to make traditional Dutch and Hungarian meals. Her most delicious dishes were her Dutch ham and potato salad, made from her mother’s cherished recipe, and her homemade Hungarian sausage and paprika chicken from John and Anna’s family recipes.

She treasured the many special evenings spent with Joe, sitting together on their beautiful deck looking up at the stars — a wonderful end to many days.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Lovasz; her children, Adam (Marie), their son Asher, and Cassandra (Lucas). She is also remembered fondly by her many nieces and nephews; her siblings David (Lavonne), Teresa, Loretta (Ted), Anita (Martin), and Steven; and special family friends Paul (Marion).

She was predeceased by her mother Jackie, father Herman, brother Paul, father‑in‑law John, sister‑in‑law Mary, and brother‑in‑law Johnny.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date with family.
