Mark Genereux passed away on January 31, 2025, after a battle with cancer at the age of 63. He was predeceased by his father and mother James and Janet, and is survived by his six siblings, Greg (Carol), Andy (Carolyn), Grant (Maryla), Donna (Tom), Luke, and Lisa; his six nieces and nephews, Jared, Cassandra, Zachariah, Nicholas (Savaya), Alex, and Curtis; and his daughter Makenzie.
Mark was many things in this lifetime, a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, and an amazing father. Anyone who knew him, knew him as a kind, caring, quirky man who didn’t follow a single rule in his life. He lived life on his own terms and had many incredible, crazy, and sometimes unbelievable stories because of it. Even the most unbelievable of which almost always turned out to be true. This meant that you either loved him or he drove you crazy, and maybe a bit of both. He would’ve laughed at this because he knew it was absolutely true. I don’t think he ever had a question that he decided to not ask out loud. Although, truthfully, I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who didn’t have a soft spot for him at the end. He spent a lifetime caring for those around him in any way that he could. He was an amazing father who always did things a little differently, from swing sets in the living room in the winter, to painting on the walls for fun, he always found ways to teach me that there was never only one way to do things and one way to live life. He always showed up when it counted the most and apologized when he faltered. He was never more than 10 minutes and a phone call away. He always spoke to me as a person and not a child, never lied, right or wrong he could always be counted on to tell the truth. He spent a lifetime trying to understand the way the universe worked, and what exactly was beyond this life. In many ways, he spent years teaching me how to survive and thrive, even when he was gone, and preparing for his own journey beyond this planet. For those of you who were there at the end, you know just how excited he was for this, and while I am heartbroken to be in a world without him, I thank the universe every day for the man he was, all he shared and taught me, and the memories I will forever cherish.
Lots of love, dad. Forever and ever.
Enjoy the next adventure until we see you again.
