Marie Sophie Busby (née Hanewich), a cherished member of the Calgary community, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the remarkable age of 104. Marie, Mom/Grandma left us with family, together with her granddaughters, Amber and Madison at her bedside while she took her final breath to be with Jesus. Born on January 25, 1922, in Benton, Alberta where she was later raised and educated in the district of Oyen, Alberta. Marie’s life was a true testament to resilience and devotion. Being a deeply spiritual woman, Marie found solace and strength in her faith throughout her personal life. She was a devoted member of St. James and then of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Calgary, where she worshipped with unwavering faith and dedication.
Marie’s family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Greg Busby and daughter-in-law Donna Busby; her granddaughters, Amber (Carlo) Parrotta and Madison Busby (Karson Tsoi, fiancé); and her sister, Beatrice Siegel, all of Calgary, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren Carolyn Lowes and Warren Brimble. Her legacy of kindness and love will live through all of us forever.

Known for her kind spirit, caring nature, and feisty personality, Marie had a tremendous heart for family and those around her. Her warmth touched everyone who knew her, leaving an indelible sentiment in their lives. Marie’s passing marks the end of an era for those who loved her dearly. May her memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
The family also wishes to acknowledge the kind and unwavering support by JCS and the CBI staff, especially Gilda who were there every day to provide and assist Mom with the absolute best care possible. Thank you.
