She was affectionately known as "Maggie". She was a sister, an aunt, a cousin and if you were lucky, a good friend. She was a legend at the Calgary herald for 38 years before retirement. She started off in the circulation department, later when the Herald moved from downtown to Deerfoot Trail, she ran the in-house print shop. She made many friends at The Calgary Herald where she left a legacy.
She took up gardening in her retirement years and started working out at "the Repsol" where she went pretty much daily, she loved the elliptical and visiting with her gym buddies. She made friends wherever she went, her infectious laugh and bright smile would draw anyone in. Some would describe her as a "character" she really was for those that knew her.
Kids of her own was not in the cards but the children in her Erlton neighbourhood were loved dearly. Number 56 became a hub in "the village". She babysat when needed, did crafts with them, and wasn't shy about walking them home when she'd had enough. The kids would come to the house daily to get marshmallow ice cream cones or whatever treats were ready on the front porch.
She had an amazing sense of humour right up until the end, always laughing at her own jokes. She was a dance partner for her sisters Linda and Gail, the "Jive" was the dance, and she always took the lead, she was an amazing dancer and loved music.
Maggie also loved watching rodeo in particular bull riding. She was a huge fan of PBR, she kept stats and scores of all the bull riders. Before bull riding Maggie loved spending time at the horse races and the odd time at the casino where she always won at the slots. She loved reading and keeping up with general knowledge of many different topics so if you had a conversation with her, she knew enough to give an opinion and carry on a conversation. She was a wiz at bedazzling and always had the bling and glue gun ready to bring a shelf or lampshade to the next level.
She is survived by her sisters, Gail and Linda; brothers, Wilfred (Laura) and Robert; niece, Kari (Marc); and great-nephews, Brandon and Julian. Predeceased by her mother, Agnes; father, Wilfred; and brother, Jackson.
Special thanks to the Southwood Care Centre hospice for their care and compassion. A special note of gratitude to cousin, Brenda and dear neighbour, Natalie, and all the wonderful friends and neighbours for visiting Maggie in hospice.
She is resting in peace finally....miss you Maggie Muggins...
