Marcus Dhanoosingh

Marcus passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at South Health Campus ICU surrounded by loved ones at the age of 38 years.

He is survived by his partner Sara Tychkowsky; his sister Rita Dhanoosingh; his uncles Randolph (Indra) Dhanoosingh, Michael Dhanoosingh, Franklyn Dhanoosingh, Neal (Sharon) Dhanoosingh; his aunt Evelyn Sampson, and his mother Ann Marie Dhanoosingh.

Marcus was born on the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago on July 13, 1986. After spending his younger years on the island, his Aunt Eve graciously brought both Marcus and his sister Rita to Canada in 2001 to live and grow up. After graduating from Ernest Manning High School in 2005, Marcus went on to attend Criminal Justice at Mount Royal College. Marcus then found his love and passion for hospitality and joined the Sheraton Eau Claire on the Valet team. Marcus continued to work at many prestigious hotels in downtown Calgary, including the Westin and Hotel Arts. Marcus was passionate about Formula 1, mountain biking, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and building LEGO technic cars with Sara. Marcus is commonly and actively referred to as the light of the party, and a jokester. He always made a point to check in with friends and acquaintances, no matter how long Marcus knew them. He provided joy, humour, strength and compassion to every single individual he met.

Sara, Rita and the family wish to extend the most heartfelt thank you to all the medical staff at South Health Campus for the care and tremendous compassion extended to both Marcus and Sara during his stay. In particular, they wish to thank the entire ICU team and Robert, the Nurse Practitioner for his thoughtfulness and care in Marcus’s final moments.

If desired in lieu of flowers, appointments can be made to donate blood with Canadian Blood Services in Marcus’s memory, or a donation can be provided to the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary in Marcus’s name.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
