Madonna (Donna) Crockett Obituary

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Madonna (Donna) Jeanne Crockett.

Donna was born on October 4th, 1940, in Edmonton AB, moving with her family to Dawson Creek, British Colombia in 1943.  Donna enjoyed a childhood full of highland dancing, music, travel, nursing school, and even taking flying lessons. Eventually, she went on to work as a secretary for Mobile Oil. Donna was remarkably tall, and while at a party one night, she looked across the room to the only man she could look eye to eye with, a young engineer named Ray Crockett and it was settled. Donna and Ray married on May 9, 1964, and shared a lifetime of love that took them around the world, most notably to Scotland, Australia, Libya, and Nigeria.

Although Donna loved her time abroad, her passion was always her family and spending time at their favorite campgrounds with long-time friends Bruce and Sherry McFadzean, and Jim and Laura Hamilton.  Donna spent many summers at her family’s cabin on Moberly Lake BC, with extended relatives and friends.  Donna was diagnosed with dementia in the early 2000s and was cared for by Ray until she eventually transitioned to Bethany Riverview in Calgary AB.

Donna’s love of music and dancing, along with her infectious smile led the staff at Bethany to fall in love with “their Madonna”, many of them visiting her in her final days.  Predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Ray, she leaves behind her two children Tom (Paige), and Heather (Sam); her four beautiful and adored grandchildren Claudia, Abigail, Isabelle, and Benjamin; siblings Doug (Janet), Laurie and Robert; sister-in-law Avaleigh and brother-in-law Terry (Joan).

She had an indescribable ability to touch those around her in a short amount of time, a gift that is still felt even though she is gone.  Donna had expressed wanting to be with Ray in their final resting place, her family will honor them both in a small gathering to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to Bethany Riverview, https://bethany7754.thankyou4caring.org/donate.
