Lorraine Jean (Busch) Filpula

Born October 8, 1939 – Passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents John and Evelyn Busch, daughter Kimberley, and her beloved husband Ben. She is survived by her children Eric (Deborah), Ann Marie (Bruce), and Todd (Willa); her cherished grandchildren Erin (Matt), Matthew (Lindsey), Aline, Alden, and Isaac; and her three great-grandchildren, who brought her so much joy. She is also survived by her sisters Shirley and Joan (John) Foster.

Lorraine led a full and eventful life and her passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of all who knew her. As part of her husband’s military career, Lorraine lived in Europe for a time, where she developed a special love for the beauty of Austria. She was an accomplished seamstress and for many years had a career being responsible for fitting and maintaining uniforms for the staff of a large workplace.  Together, Lorraine and Ben opened their hearts and home as foster parents to several children over the years, offering them care, compassion, and support. 

In her younger years, Lorraine was active in her community, coaching girls’ hockey. She had a passionate love of sport that she carried throughout her life—there was always a game on her TV. In her later years, Lorraine resided at High Country Lodge in Diamond Valley, where she enjoyed the company of good friends, the support of valued staff, and participating in leisure activities and outings.

Lorraine especially found great happiness in her visits to and from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thank you to all of the staff at Rockyview General Hospital and High Country Lodge, your kindness has never gone unnoticed. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in New Finland, Saskatchewan, where Lorraine has requested to be laid to rest alongside her beloved Ben.
