Lee Morrison Obituary

Lee Glen Morrison, born March 6th, 1932, in Vidora, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on March 15th, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta.

Lee was the son of Lewis Gilbert Morrison and Violet Edith (Olmsted) Morrison. He was raised as an only child on a small ranch in the prairies of Saskatchewan. He was born into the heart of the Great Depression in rural western Canada and grew up through the years of the Second World War; times that demanded resilience, discipline, and resourcefulness. From those early experiences, he developed a deep and lasting sense of frugality and practicality, values he carried with him throughout his entire life.

As a young man, Lee left the ranch to work at the Alert Arctic weather station as an operator. It was there, in a remote and demanding environment, that he saved the money needed to pursue higher education. He went on to attend the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned his degree in geological engineering.

Lee then embarked on a long and accomplished career as a geological engineer that took him across the world. His work brought him to the Philippines, Central and South America, Australia, Taiwan, Morocco, and across Canada, demonstrating his technical expertise and his readiness to follow opportunity wherever it arose. Despite his global career, he remained grounded in the values shaped by his prairie upbringing.

He belonged to a remarkable generation; one that saw the world change at an almost unimaginable pace. As someone who grew up with horses as part of daily life and later watched humanity walk on the Moon, he carried a rare perspective; rooted in the past yet mindful of rapid progress.

This sense of perspective and responsibility carried into the next chapter of his life. In 1993, Lee was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Swift Current – Maple Creek – Assiniboia riding, and later reelected in 1997 in Cypress Hills – Grasslands following redistribution. He served in the 35th and 36th Canadian Parliaments as a member of the Reform Party, later the Canadian Alliance. In Ottawa, he represented his constituents with conviction, practicality, and a strong sense of responsibility to the people of rural Saskatchewan.

Lee was known for his intelligence, discipline, and firm principles. He was not a man of many words, but when he spoke, he spoke with clarity and purpose. Those who knew him best understood that beneath his reserved nature was a commitment to his family and to doing what he believed was right.

Lee will be remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, constituents, and acquaintances, and all who knew him for his service, and for the steady and enduring life he built.

It was his wish that he not have a funeral.
