Kirk Andrew Aucoin, aged 66, passed away on January 26, 2026, in Calgary, AB. He was a man who lived life with a smile on his face, a story in his heart, and an enduring love for the open road.
Born September 16, 1959, in Halifax, NS, to Arthur and Doris Aucoin, Kirk was the second of four children. His arrival followed two years after his brother, Shane, a pattern that continued with the births of his sisters, Bonnie and Deana, every two years. Raised in a military family, Kirk’s childhood was a series of adventures as the family moved across the country before his parents eventually settled outside of Hamilton, Ontario.
As a young man, Kirk felt the pull of the West and made his way to Alberta. It was here that he welcomed his greatest pride, his only daughter, Kendra Aucoin. Kirk spent his life traversing his three favorite provinces—visiting Kendra and friend Ben Villeneuve (Laurie) in Alberta, his parents and family in Ontario, and his extended family in Nova Scotia. He was a bit of a nomad in his later years, never staying in one place too long and even escaping to Hawaii to enjoy the winter sun.
One of Kirk’s greatest joys was cars. A true "car junkie," he was happiest when he was under the hood of a vehicle or talking shop into the wee hours about his latest dream projects. He was a social butterfly who could make a friend anywhere, often found at the local Tim Hortons or McDonald’s, swapping stories and laughs with fellow retirees.
He was a resilient, happy guy who greeted everyone with a genuine smile and was always ready to share a laugh.
Kirk is survived by his daughter, Kendra Aucoin; his cherished grandchildren, Casey and Ryder; his sisters, Bonnie Aucoin and Deana (Rob) Popwell; one niece and three nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur, and his brother, Shane.
In a final act of family connection, his beloved mother, Doris Aucoin, followed her two sons into the afterlife January 29, 2026.
