Kenneth (Kenny) Gerelus Obituary

With profound love and sadness, we share that Kenneth (Kenny) Stephen Gerelus passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was surrounded by his partner Candace Belliveau and his children Lauren Ellerby (Keaton) and Leigh Gerelus (Sarah), who held his hands as he took his final breaths.

Kenny was born on May 9, 1950, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and lived every day with energy, humour, and an open heart. He was a man of faith, a proud Christian who believed in kindness and second chances. Kenny had a larger-than-life personality; he could fill a room with laughter, lend an ear to anyone in need, and make every person he met feel seen and welcomed. He was everyone’s supporter and biggest fan, and he would give the shirt off his back for all those he loved. Kenny had a deep love for music and entertaining. He was happiest with a guitar or harmonica in hand, sharing songs and stories that lifted spirits. He had a sense of humour that would light up the room. His corny jokes, playful teasing, and unforgettable ghost stories around the campfire will be remembered and retold for generations. He loved the freedom of the open road. Riding his motorbike or going for drives with his love, Candy, were among his favourite pastimes. He was a loving partner, devoted father, and proud grandfather.

Kenny leaves behind his partner Candace, his children Lauren and Leigh, his cherished grandchildren Theo Ellerby, Holden, and Emelia Gerelus, and his youngest brother, Glen Gerelus. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Schaver, and was predeceased by his brother, David Gerelus.

Those who knew Kenny will remember his big laugh, his love of conversation, and his unwavering support for family and friends. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and faith, a reminder to live with generosity and heart. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Though our hearts ache with loss, we take comfort knowing his music, laughter, and love will forever echo in our lives. His presence will be felt in every song, every sunset drive, and every story shared around the fire. We’ll carry him with us always, until we meet again.

A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held in the spring of 2026 in Calgary, Alberta, to allow family and friends time to travel and plan. Details will be shared at a later date.
