Karen Henderson Obituary

Karen was called home to heaven at 2:20 AM, Tuesday, April 16, 2024, on what would have been her late brother Lee's 59th birthday. She leaves to mourn her children, Jason Koops and Carolyn Bigg; grandchildren, Richard, Jayden, Zackary and Luca; fur babies, Tiger and Lily; nieces, Brittany and Jessica; nephews, Ryan, Jonathan (Aimee), Travis, Ian and Kyle; as well as many other nieces and nephews, through marriage/friendships; his aunt Gwen and children Mitch and Kristina, cousins, Kim (Gayle), Lynn, Donald (Vikki), Ernie, Darcy, Randy and Melody. Karen will be greatly missed by her sister and close friend Rita (Bill); sister (in-law) Sheona; ex-husband and friend Eimert. Karen will also be fondly remembered by her dear friend of 39+ years, Jo-Anne (and her family); close friends, Dorothy and Linda; and supportive friends, Kim and Deanna.

Karen was pre-deceased by her husband, Cameron (2016), father, Ray (2002) and mother, Helen Mountain (2019); brothers, Rick (1974) and Lee (2016); and son-in-law Rob (2015).

Karen was an amazing woman, full of strength, compassion, and love. She was always taking care of others and had a hard time letting others take care of her, even right up to the very end. Our family and close friends will fondly remember the many dinners mom hosted. For every holiday/special occasion, mom was always making fabulous meals and filling the house with all her loved ones, there to appreciate her delicious meals and to be together.  Family was always her number one priority, whether you were blood or chosen.  Karen had a great love for music and played the piano quite beautifully.  She was a very humble woman, who never saw for herself just how amazing of a woman she was!  She had many interests over the years including beading, crafting, selling beauty products and hosting “spa days”. As always, with each interest she had, the main reason she enjoyed them so much was to share with her family and friends.

Karen and her family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Ghatage at Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Dr. Vahidy (and her receptionist Donna) at South Health Campus, all the wonderful ladies at the Cancer Centre in the High River Hospital, Dr. Vice, Dr. Day, and Dr. Boucher as well as all the wonderful nurses, care aides and doctors that took such great care of her on the third floor at High River Hospital during the last days of her courageous battle.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2025 in Kelowna, BC. Details to be announced at a later date.
