The family of John K. Mahon is saddened to announce his passing on March 23, 2025. John lived a full life. He was born and raised in Wells / Barkerville, BC.; travelling extensively in his younger years. John settled in Vancouver and started his HR career in the banking industry. It was in Vancouver that John met Gladys - his wife of 62 years. When John took a job with Lornex Mine in 1970, he and Gladys were the 3rd family to move to Logan Lake in 1971 where John was instrumental in the set up of both the town and the mine. John’s 35+ year career in mining took him and Gladys to BC, Ontario, and the Yukon, before he retired to Kamloops in 1993.
John and Gladys relocated to Alberta in 2023. The life of the party, John always had a joke to tell and was keen to MC any event. His love of camping took the family to Canim Lake, BC for many years; the trip started with John hollering "Wagon Ho" as we left the driveway. Fishing and golfing were favourite hobbies; this was passed along to his children and grandchildren.
John is survived by wife Gladys, son John Mahon (Marnie), daughter Kim LeGrandeur (Cam), grandsons Nick Mahon, Brett LeGrandeur, and Justin (Shorty) LeGrandeur. He was predeceased by his mother Lucy and father Ted, brother Mike, mother-in-law Fran and father-in-law Fred. Dad was also predeceased by his good friend Bob Daley; we are sure they are playing cards, having a good laugh together, arguing over who is going to taste the dandelion wine first.
Husband, Dad, Grandad, we will miss you, the stories you told and the guidance you provided. We will treasure our memories.
Wagon Ho!
