John "Jack" Gordon Montgomery

John Gordon Montgomery (Jack), the beloved husband of Isobel Montgomery, passed away on March 31, 2025, at the age of 90 years.

Jack was born to John and Irene Montgomery in Macklin, Saskatchewan on March 5th, 1935. He grew up in Evesham, Saskatchewan, enjoying his family and friends in the daily activities of a small town. He graduated from High School with aspirations for higher learning in Saskatoon. Jack received a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1959 from the University of Saskatchewan and then a Chartered Accountant designation in 1961.

During this time, Jack met and later married Isobel McLean on August 8, 1959, in Kindersley. They met at a dance at University summer school, while Jack was working at the tax department in Saskatoon. They later moved to Calgary in 1962 where they raised three daughters, Beverley, Heather, and Joanne.

Over the years Jack and Isobel continued their love of dancing as one of their many social activities and exercise. They continued to be partners, dancing through life’s happenings supporting each other for sixty-five and a half years.

Jack was immensely proud of his profession and was dedicated to it for over 63 years. Although Jack travelled the world during the practice of his profession, he never lost his love for the prairies.

Jack loved gardening and especially aspired to be a great tomato grower! He was in his element working in the yard during the summer. Jack enjoyed working with his hands, he was a do-it-yourself kind of guy and always liked to fix things. Jack had a great sense of humour and liked to make people laugh. He always tried to lighten the mood with a well delivered joke.

Jack was immensely proud of his family and loved them very much. Many happy times were spent holidaying in the various tent trailers, camping around Alberta and BC. Their adventures took them to Christina Lake, where they continued to go every summer for several years. Eventually, a cabin was purchased at the wonderful lake where every family member came to love those summer days and all the activities and friends there. It is a favourite place for all the family.

Jack had great love for each grandchild, Megan, Colin, Claire, Daniel, and Laura. He was interested in all their endeavours and knew exactly what each was doing. He always had words of admiration and encouragement for each one. He had a great relationship with both his sons-in-law, Marty and Ivan. They enjoyed spending time together talking shop and sports, including hockey, baseball, and football.

Jack will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of his life will be held at Lakeview United Church, 3023 – 63 Ave SW. on April 25th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lakeview United Church Roof fund.
