It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Allore on November 10, 2025, Jack to his people, and Jake the Snake to those who knew him best.
Jack was born on an elevator (can't make this stuff up!) in Peterborough ON, in January 1947, to parents Rita (Gabourie) and Francis Allore. From painting basement floor murals, to a teenage success at building explosives, to hanging out of helicopters, getting the perfect promotional video shot for Imperial Oil, Jack did not live a boring life. Prior to meeting his future wife, Susan Groombridge, while attending the Sir Sanford Fleming College Audio Visual program, Jack spent his youth travelling North America on his motorcycle. After convincing Susan to join him, Jack and Sue moved west to Alberta in 1975, having a daughter in 1978. He settled into a career spent freezing, while filming footage in the Beaufort Sea and beyond, chasing boating races and cows with a satellite truck. In his so-called 'retirement', he found his final passions, fixing anything and everything, while growing the most amazing gardens every summer. Jack adored few things more than his cats and his tomatoes, except maybe seeing a 100 year old machine come back to life.
Jack is pre-deceased by his beloved little brother Peter Allore, sister-in-law Darlene Allore (Warcomika), and his parents Rita and Frank.
Jack is survived by his adored elder sister, Sharon O'Toole (Allore), brother-in-law James O'Toole, his nieces Patricia, Christina, Brandy and Amanda, and his nephew Greg. Jack is also survived by his daughter Jennifer Allore (Wes Balla, Jared Prysunka) and his grandchildren Keelin Balla and Lyndon Balla.
He was cantankerous, but he was kind. He was wild, but also industrious. He will be missed by all who knew him, learned from him, and loved him.
Donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (https://cmha.ca/). Progress, not perfection.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Calgary Unitarians (1703 - 1 street NW) Calgary.
