John Leonard Brost

The family of John Brost sadly announces his passing on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the age of 56 after a courageous battle with cancer. John received a double lung transplant 15 years ago and was given a new lease on life. Sadly 4 years ago those same lungs had developed cancer. Being the strong, hard-working man that he was, he battled with everything he had and completely changed his life, giving him 4 more years. We are heartbroken that his battle and journey has ended, but proud of his incredible hard work and dedication to his fight.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 35 years, Lydia; their two sons, Colin, and Nathan (Kayla); his two grandchildren, Madelyn, and Parker; as well as his mother Audrey; brother Henry; and sister Marie.

John was a man of many talents and passions! He loved the outdoors and nature. When his boys were young, the family spent many weekends camping in Banff. He also enjoyed a good game of golf with his boys and friends over the years. In more recent years, he enjoyed walks on the McKenzie Lake Ridge and chasing the grandkids around at playgrounds. He was also an expert craftsman, spending the majority of his days renovating and creating beautiful pieces! From handmade cabinets to his granddaughter’s big girl bed, John was always ensuring he had the best quality in all his work.

John will be greatly missed by the friends that he made over the years from house renovations, church connections, and many coffee meet-ups.

A special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at The Peter Lougheed Hospital and his incredible transplant team at the Foothills Medical Centre. Thank you as well to all our family and friends for all their love, support, and prayers during his journey and this difficult time.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at First Church of the Nazarene (65 Richard Way SW Calgary) on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. For those unable to attend, a link to the live stream will be posted soon.
