Jane Outcalt

Jane Outcalt died peacefully at the Bethany Riverview in Calgary, Alberta on August 3, 2024 at the age of 92 years.  

Jane was born in 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio. She studied at Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and the University of Calgary in Calgary, AB. Jane worked at the Glenbow Museum for many years. She was also a teacher with the Rocky View School Division, where she taught music at the elementary school in Cochrane, AB, and won several awards at the Kiwanis Music Festival. 

In 1997, Jane retired and spent her time traveling to places like Africa and Europe. She especially loved China and spent time there teaching English as a second language to adults. She also enjoyed attending art galleries and concerts and browsing through bookstores. Her favorite thing was to be surrounded by her books, drinking a cup of strong coffee, having a cat on her lap and listening to Bach. 

Jane was predeceased by her husband Earl and is survived by her sons Galen and James and her daughter Sarah. 

By request, no funeral or memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Meow Foundation (https://meowfoundation.com/) or Calgary Performing Arts Festival (formerly the Kiwanis Festival) (https://cpafestival.ca/).
