James Macleod Obituary

James (Jim) Macleod passed away peacefully in Calgary on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the age of 91.

Born in Winnipeg, MB Nov 29, 1933, to Norman and Joseline (Banfield), older brother to Norman. Jim was the Grandson of Col James F Macleod of the NWMP, a legacy and history he was quietly and very passionately proud of.

Jim and his younger brother Norman/Norrie grew up in Manitoba and spent part of his childhood on his family farm where, when he didn’t hitch the horse and buggy to get to school, he would walk uphill both ways…in rain…in blizzards.

The teenage years were in Calgary where he attended Central Memorial High School and finally The University of Alberta for his Class of ‘56 Chemical Engineering degree. Jim was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and suffice it to say, he had a good time living there!

Married to Donna Cybulski in 1959, in Calgary, they relocated to Edmonton, Moncton NB and back to Calgary. They had their 3 children, Sandy, Sydney and Jay in each of these cities.

Jim spent his entire career in the oil patch in a variety of roles with a number of companies. Drilling engineer, production engineer, VP production and President. His skills took him across Canada and the Arctic and worldwide including Houston, , UAE, China, Russia, Peru and Columbia. He had so many funny and interesting tales to tell and lived a very full life.

Jim was very proud of his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his children, Norman/Sandy (Andrea Rivalin), Sydney (Bob Heathcott), James/Jay (Kristina); and his grandchildren Keltey and Conor Heathcott.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Aspen Heights Memory Care where he spent his last couple of years.

A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
