Jakob Machado Hensel, 49 years old, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on April 30, 2024 at the
South Health Campus in Calgary, after a two year battle with Bulbar ALS.
Jakob was born on March 27, 1975, to Leo Hensel and Marilyn Machado in Empress, Alberta.
He leaves behind 4 siblings, Wolfgang, Cody, Amadeous, and Chelsea.
After Jakob graduated from Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary School in Westbank, BC he
went on to get a degree in Business Operations and Management at DeVry University in
Calgary.
Jakob was very athletic and strong, he loved almost every sport, but his absolute favorite was
Rugby, he played Rugby all through school all the way to 2006 when injuries forced him to stop.
Jakob met Michelle online in 2000, married in 2002, had Makkenna in 2003 and Jaidyn in 2005.
It was an amazing love story they shared and he will be forever missed and loved.
Jakob was the owner/operator of MAJA Construction Inc. he was clever and full to the brim with
knowledge gained through his numerous years building just about everything, he could fix or
build anything. He always went above and beyond to always do what his customers wanted, his
mottos of “bringing your ideas to life” and “of course, I don’t look busy, I did it right the first time”.
He could do anything from changing a door handle, to building and finishing a house. No job was
ever too BIG or too small.
Jakob was a volunteer firefighter in the Town of Nanton for 11 years and loved every minute of
it. He was also voted into Nanton Town Council for 2 terms, lasting 7 years, he was on
numerous committees and enjoyed helping out where and when he could.
Jakob was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a
wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, strong, loyal, and brave. He could talk to anyone,
and would be the first person to help anyone in need. He was an amazing husband and father,
his love for his “3 ladies” was undeniable right up to the end, always putting them first and
making sure they were looked after.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent directly via the Go Fund Me page
https://gofund.me/487adc18 All donations are set to go directly to his forever soulmate, and wife
of 22 years, Michelle, and their daughters Makkenna and Jaidyn as this was his biggest worry to
leave his “3 ladies” with financial struggle from his inability to work due to ALS and in the end,
his death.
A celebration of Jakob’s life is being held on July 28, 2024, 12 - 4 pm at the Nanton Curling Club
Lounge, 2122 18th Street, Nanton, Alberta. All who knew him are invited to attend. Since he
was such a huge Oilers fan, we ask if you have anything Oilers related, that you wear it.
