Irene (Rezansoff) Toporowski

In the afternoon on February 14, 2026, Irene Toporowski (née Rezansoff) passed away peacefully, having family at her side during her last few hours.

Irene is lovingly remembered by Mike Toporowski, her devoted husband of nearly 66 years, whose dedication to her comfort and well-being knew no bounds. She will also be dearly missed by her daughter, Lara Tarraran (Pierre); her granddaughter, Kelsey Morash (Jared); and her great-grandson, Kayce Morash, who brought her immense joy. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Polly Rezansoff (née Kurenoff), and her grandson, Dylan Tarraran.

Irene grew up on the farm, the middle of three sisters in a close-knit community surrounded by family and friends. Married at 19, Mike’s work first took them to life with the polar bears of Churchill, MB, and then on to Calgary where they built their forever home in North Haven. Irene cherished their neighbors who became lifelong friends, coffee companions, and partners in some legendary parties.

Irene loved a good get-together; if there was music, she was dancing. If there were shenanigans, she probably started it. She was as loving and generous as she was spicy and hilarious. Typically without filter, and always unforgettable! She loved to host as she was a fantastic cook, she enjoyed golf and card games, adored her dogs, and Heaven help anyone who went to the Calgary Stampede and didn’t bring her back a corndog!  

Irene dedicated many years to her family as a stay-at-home mom during the 1970s. Over the years, she also worked at Montreal Trust, her cousin’s family medical practice, Sears, MDS Paramedical, and the Chapelhow Legion.

Diabetes was a burden Irene carried with strength and resilience since the age of 40. In her memory, those who wish to may donate in her honour to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Irene wished for no formal service. Mike and Lara will carry her home to rest in her hometown at a later date.
