Ida Jane Brandt Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ida Jane Brandt, who passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the age of 95.

Ida is survived by her son-in-law, Ross Rothermal; her grandchildren, Harlan Fowler (Shanda Sperling), Richard Fowler (Nicole Black) and Nicole Rothermal; and her granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Fowler; along with her great-grandkids, Kiegan Rothermal ,Peyton Fowler, Brandt Fowler, Connor Fowler, and Carson Rothermal. Ida was predeceased by her husband, Edwin (Ed) Brandt; and her daughter, Carol Rothermal.

Ida was born in Strathclair, Winnipeg, on August 8, 1928, raised by Napoleon (Nappy) and Nora. She later met and married Edwin (Ed) Brandt and brought her beautiful daughter Carol into the world. Over their time together, Ida and Ed shared adventures camping and traveling the Southern United States. It wasn’t until the 80’s, they decided to return back to Canada to be nearer to family. They settled back in Edmonton, Alberta and in the late 80’s were joined by their daughter Carol and her sons Harlan and Richard. Many family gatherings were had. Ida and Ed shared 50 plus years of wonderful memories together.

When Ed passed, Ida moved to Airdrie, Alberta to live with her daughter Carol and son-in-law, Ross. She settled into life with the grands and great-grands, sharing her stories, her recipes, her plucky sense of humor and of course, one of her favorite snacks, KFC! After a few years in Airdrie, Ida being the adventurer she was, decided to move back to Winnipeg to be closer to her siblings. She spent a few years in Winnipeg before deciding it was time to move on to the next chapter of her life. Ida came back to Alberta and settled into independent living in Carstairs, AB.

After a few years in Carstairs, she relocated to Evanston, NW, in Calgary, AB, where she was closer to family. Here she enjoyed many fun years of family celebrations, bingo, KFC and bowling (championships) with her family and new friends! Ida will be sadly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the staff who attended Ida’s needs in her last months at Evanston Grande Village where Ida passed.
