Heinz Bednar Obituary

Heinz Bednar, beloved husband of Pamela Bednar (nee Hirsche), of Calgary, AB passed away at home on Monday, April 1, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

Heinz was born and raised in Mahrisch-Ostrall, Czechia (Slovakia) before traveling to Canada as a young boy after WWII and settling in Fernie, BC.  He then spread his wings and made the move with his family to Calgary, Alberta.  

Heinz’s career began in the Hospitality industry working at Franzl’s Gasthaus, Calgary, AB and then traveled to Lethbridge, AB to work at the Marquis Hotel where he met the love of his life, Pam. They wed in May of 1964 in Lethbridge, AB, and eventually settled in Calgary, AB to raise their family where they enjoyed spending time with friends and family, camping, fishing, and hockey.

He later transitioned into the Construction field, working with Stuart Olson for several years, until his retirement.

In addition to his loving wife, Heinz is survived by his children; Laurie (Tony), Leah and Heinz Jr. and his grandchildren Nicholas, Ryan and Matthew. Heinz is also survived by his “other” children; niece Michaela, her husband Doug, their son Darren and daughter in-law Laura,; Jason, Angel and their children, his “other” grandchildren, James and Janelle; and nephew in-law Guenter who all held a very special place in his heart. Heinz is also survived by nieces, nephews, and very dear and close friends. Heinz was predeceased by his father, mother, brothers, sisters, and several other precious family members.

There will be no memorial or funeral service at Heinz's request.
