Gwen Elaine (St. Jean) Nieuwdorp

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Gwen Elaine Nieuwdorp (nee St. Jean) passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer with her family by her side. Gwen will be lovingly remembered by those who knew her best as a devoted and loving wife, wonderful and doting mother, thoughtful daughter, and a best friend as a sister. We know her friends and former colleagues will also recall her gentle spirit, kind heart, positivity, and humour. She was an amazing human being that was born on Christmas day and was truly a gift of love and friendship to all people she encountered.
Gwen is survived by and will be deeply missed by her soulmate, Tim, her cherished daughter Taylor, her mother Irene and her sister Gail (Andy).  Gwen will be sadly missed by all her nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins. Gwen was predeceased by her father Harold (St. Jean).
Gwen grew up in Calgary where she meets the love of her life Tim and Calgary remained her home where many wonderful memories were made. She excelled at all her jobs before she began her career with the Calgary Fire Department. Gwen worked +35 years at the Calgary Fire Department where her dedication to hard work, leadership, and with her bubbly personality formed many great friendships and Gwen was recognized for her impressive work. CFD was truly her second family. Gwen’s most beloved and cherished job was being a mom to her daughter Taylor.
Gwen was an attentive listener as well as a great storyteller. She struck up conversations easily and was genuinely interested in other people's lives and stories. Gwen always liked to leave people with a smile on their face with an amusing comment or a funny story. Gwen herself had a beautiful smile.
Our family would like to acknowledge all the health professionals who provided Gwen with their knowledge, compassion, and emotional strength in her fight against cancer. Gwen was so brave and positive in light of all the medical complications and procedures she endured.
While we are heartbroken to lose such wonderful lady, we take comfort in knowing that Gwen’s vibrant spirit and love for life will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to a cancer agency of your choice in Gwen’s memory or as Gwen would say, go buy yourself something nice.
