Guy Bradley Godbout Obituary

It is with deep love and saddened hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandpa, Guy Bradley Joseph Godbout on March 23, 2025, at his place of residence in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 68.

His memory will be cherished by his wife Colleen, his children: Matthew Godbout, Daniel Godbout, Dylan Godbout (predeceased), Stephanie Cecchini (Michael), Erica Zavala (Kevin), and Justin Godbout, as well as his grandchildren: Kalel, Lainey, Madeleine, Tarren, Brenden, Riley, Hailey, Aiden, Archelle, and Marlene. In addition, Guy will be dearly missed by his four siblings: Derek Godbout (Carol), Bradley Godbout (Janet), Lisa Zettler (Bryan), and Lynn Young (Chris), as well as numerous friends and customers that he made throughout his years of owning Calmet.

Born on August 14, 1956, in Cambridge Ontario, to Rosario and Donna Godbout, he was the oldest of 5 children. As a child, Guy was outgoing, he had a mischievous spirit and was always telling jokes to make others laugh. While growing up, Guy was close to his grandparents and enjoyed spending quality time with them.

Guy graduated from high school from Galt Collegiate Institute and Vocational School (GCI) in 1974 and completed post-secondary education at Mohawk college in broadcasting and then landscaping. He worked as a broadcaster for a couple of years and then pursued a career in landscaping, where he could showcase his creativity and strong work ethic. Shortly thereafter, Guy pursued a position working for his father at Royce, where he met, and married Christine in April of 1989 and they started their family.

Following his father’s footsteps in the pursuit of being a business owner, Guy took a leap of faith and moved his family out west to Calgary in 1994 to work at Calmet. After years of commitment and perseverance, Guy became the owner. Guy was fiercely driven and resourceful, and built his business through integrity, hard work, and his unwavering commitment to his customers. This is where he met his wife Colleen of 16 years in 2009, and they became inseparable in business and life ever since.

Guy enjoyed spending his free time outdoors and was passionate about landscaping and gardening. Guy had extensive knowledge of all flowers, shrubs, and trees. He could identify any given plant, name it, and tell you how to properly care for it. Guy was also an exceptional pruner and always had the greenest grass in the neighborhood.

In his younger years he loved to travel, often visiting many historic places. He loved listening to music, such as Gordon Lightfoot, Elton John, and the Smiths to name a few. Guy also had an early passion for videography and kept that love throughout his life by capturing his children’s and grandchildren’s special moments.

He will be remembered for his silly sense of humor, lightheartedness, and profound love he had for all his family. Guy touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

While Guy left us far too soon, his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

A private family graveside service will be held at Prairie Sky Cemetery to honor Guy’s life. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
