Grace Anne Johnston

Grace Anne Johnston passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on June 17, 2026, at Walden AgeCare in Calgary, AB where she called home for the last six years.

Our family is extremely grateful to the staff for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided, helping to make Grace’s final years as comfortable and meaningful as possible.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Debbie; her granddaughter, Jessica; her grandson, Cjay; her great-granddaughter, Taylor; her great-grandson, Dominic; her son, Aaron (Kathy); and her granddaughters, Emily and Katie. She is also survived by her sister, Eva, in England; her sister, Elizabeth (Betty), in Australia; and many cousins.

Grace was predeceased by her parents, William and Jean McDowell; her husband of 59 years, Jack; her brother, Paul; and her brother, Allen.

Grace was born on March 1, 1937, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She immigrated to Canada on June 30, 1973. She lived in Ontario and Winnipeg before settling in Calgary in 1984.

She devoted many years to Diversified Staffing, where she made many close friends over the years.

Grace had a passion for shopping, getting her hair done, and always looking her best. Her husband of 59 years, Jack, patiently waited, often rolling his eyes as he knew there would be another shopping trip the very next day. Through it all, he was always by her side, carrying her bags, opening doors, and treating her like royalty.

Grace loved to travel. Whether she was in Las Vegas with a group of girls from work, sightseeing with her daughter, visiting her sister Betty in Australia for the first time in 40 years, or soaking up the sunshine in Hawaii and Mexico, she was always happiest on an adventure. Whatever the location, she was happiest with the sun on her face and her nails done.

Grace spent her later years enjoying precious time with her daughter Debbie, her grandchildren Jessica and Cjay, and her two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Dominic.

Though she is no longer with us, she leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories that will be treasured by her family and friends forever. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
